Schools Awards

The Hazels with our strategic partners Get with the Program and Tech She Can ran two competitions across schools in the UK. One was to design a space robot or space robotics, and the second was to design the physical awards for The Hazels. We were amazed by the creativity and enthusiasm from all the entries.

Carmen Ivy and Nivedita were the worthy winners of the space robot and space robotics competition.

The winner of the design for the physical award was Rose, aged 11, who designed and made a cardboard sculpture of a robotic hand holding a cube sat which we thought was the perfect symbolism of the human skills and technical innovation involved in making the space sector what it is.

We then converted Rose’s design into a 3D print format which we sent to the incredible team at The Award Maker Studio who made Rose’s vision a reality.

We chose copper for the main awards to symbolise the critical materials of the space industry, and a one-off gold award which was presented to our special guest, Helen Sharman, the first Brit in space for her Lifetime Achievement Award.
