Sheil applied for her commission and began IOT in May 2017, graduating the following year. On graduating, she completed the IDO Course at RAF Boulmer and was posted to the CRC. In 2019, Sheil was moved into the SO3 BM Ops role in the outer office of the Station Commander at RAF Boulmer, responsible for completing staff work and communicating between the tactical unit and BMFHQ A3/5 at Air Command. During this post, Sheil began to work with Space Cap to develop her growing interest in Space. This involved reviewing recent articles on Space updates around the world and providing the implication on UK Space operations to distribute across the RAF.

In 2020, Sheil deployed to Op SHADER as a Crew Chief and took charge of a small team. Returning to the UK, Sheil was posted into the COMUKSTRKFOR Space Liaison Officer role based at HMS Excellent, Portsmouth. From January 2021, Sheil was based at HMS Excellent with the 2* Battle Staff within the Joint Effects 3/5 team, supporting all units under CSF.

As one of the first Space Liaison Officers, Sheil educated the Royal Navy and Royal Marines on the importance and reliance on Space. The first task in the role was to provide Space SME knowledge from reach back to Op FORTIS. This role involved planning and executing both NATO and UK-only exercises in a Joint and Maritime environment, such as Ex JOINT WARRIOR, Ex COLD RESPONSE and Op ACHILLEAN. She was also requested to aid planning at JFC Norfolk, where she drove the inclusion of Space into NATO planning for the North Atlantic JOA. During this tour, Sheil was deployed onboard both QEC carriers to act as the Space SME, informing Naval intelligence, Space input to planning, education on the use of Space products and real-world Space support.

In 2023, Flt Lt Sheil was selected as a student on the Qualified Space Instructors Course. Upon completion, she graduated as the top student and was subsequently appointed Officer Commanding (OC) of the course at the Air & Space Warfare School (ASWS), RAF Cranwell. In this role, she led a comprehensive redesign of the course, introducing more operationally focused modules and enhanced space warfare academic content to ensure graduates are better prepared to perform effectively in operational roles.

Outside of work, her main interests are playing netball, hiking, and running as many miles as it takes to beat her family and friends step count for the week. She also continues to be an avid surfer, coaching at her home beach whenever possible.
